Reface App Review: Fun Swaps, Messy Billing (Oct 2026)

We read the live store pages, Trustpilot, Product Hunt and Reddit so you know what the 300M-download face swap app costs before you tap Subscribe.

Summary

Reface app review in short: Reface is a template-based face swap app for iOS, Android and web, checked from its live listings on 2026-10-14. The App Store shows 4.8 from 496K ratings, Google Play 3.8 from 1.78M reviews, Trustpilot 4.4 from 2,589. Swaps into memes and short clips are the strength. Weekly plans from $2.49 to $6.99 are the weak spot, up to $363 a year if forgotten, against $24.99 annual. Fine for a one-off joke, poor as a quiet subscription. Score: 5.8/10.

5.8 /10

Reface is a template-driven face swap app for iOS, Android and web that swaps fast, but its money side is rough. The App Store shows 4.8 from 496K ratings while Google Play shows 3.8 from 1.78M reviews, and a $6.99 weekly plan adds up to $363.48 a year if forgotten. Fun for one-off memes, risky as a quiet subscription. Score: 5.8/10.

This is an evidence review, not a hands-on test, and we say so on purpose. On October 14, 2026 I loaded the App Store page, the Google Play page, the Trustpilot profile, the Product Hunt reviews page, reface.app, reface.ai and the web face swap tool, and recorded every rating, count and price shown. I read the 20 most recent Trustpilot reviews one by one and counted the ones about billing. I also read a March 2026 third-party review and two Reddit threads for context. I did not upload a selfie, so I make no claim about how your swap will look. Screenshots are captures of the official pages taken the same day.

Should you install it?

YES if you...

  • You want a one-off face swap into a meme, GIF or short clip for a group chat
  • You post on TikTok or Reels and want a template library that keeps refreshing
  • You will cancel in your store settings the same day you subscribe

NO if you...

  • You want stylized portraits or avatars rather than swaps into other people's clips
  • You are uneasy about uploading clear selfies to a third-party server
  • You hate surprise recurring charges and tend to forget trials
  • You need pro-level control over lighting, compositing or export settings

ROI breakdown: Over 52 weeks the weekly SKUs reach $129.48 ($2.49), $207.48 ($3.99) and $363.48 ($6.99). The $24.99 annual plan is 6.9% to 19.3% of that, so a weekly plan only makes sense if you cancel within days.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Fast swaps into a deep template library Third-party testers describe short clips and popular GIF templates as convincing, with expressions tracking well. The catalog refreshes with trends.
  • Runs on iOS, Android and the web The web tool also lists a no-watermark, no-ads paid tier, which the mobile free tier does not offer.
  • Support answers fast and often refunds Trustpilot reviewers repeatedly praise quick replies and refunds, including after an unintended signup.
  • Clear cancellation steps are published Reface lists iOS, Android and web cancellation paths on one page, including Profile, Settings, Support, Cancel Subscription.

Cons

  • Weekly plans can quietly reach $363 a year Three weekly SKUs from $2.49 to $6.99 are listed. Several Play and Trustpilot reviews describe charges of $19.99 or $25 after an advertised $4.99 or $7.99.
  • Android score of 3.8 against iOS 4.8 A one-point gap on the same product is large. The top Play reviews we read were about billing and generated photos that did not look like the user.
  • Privacy label lists tracking-capable data The developer-declared App Store label lists purchases, user content, identifiers and usage data as data used to track you. Apple notes it is unverified.
  • Five-star Trustpilot score leans on support In the latest 20 reviews, 18 are five stars, yet 8 involve a refund, cancellation or unexpected charge. Many stars reward the fix, not the product.
Verdict

Final verdict

5.8 /10

Reface does the one thing it is famous for: put your face into a clip, fast. If that is all you want, the free tier or a single annual purchase at $24.99 is a fair price for a few weeks of memes.

The trouble is everything around that core. The weekly plans are priced to look tiny and add up to $129 to $363 a year. The 3.8 on Google Play, the billing stories in the top reviews and the 8-in-20 billing share on Trustpilot all point the same way. Support clearly cleans up a lot of it, which is good, but you should not need a refund email to enjoy a meme app.

Recommended for: casual swappers who cancel on day one and understand store settings. Not recommended for: anyone wary of face data, forgetful subscribers, or people who want portraits rather than clip swaps. Our 5.8/10 is a judgement from public evidence, not a hands-on benchmark, and it moves if billing clarity improves.

Common questions

Is Reface free to use?
You can download it free on iOS and Android, but the free tier carries ads and limits according to store listings and reviewers. The App Store lists in-app purchases from $2.49 a week to $39.99 for a one-time pack. Treat free as a trial, not a plan.
How much does Reface cost per year?
On mobile the annual plan is $24.99. Monthly is $12.99, about $155.88 a year. Weekly plans listed at $2.49, $3.99 and $6.99 reach $129.48, $207.48 and $363.48 over 52 weeks. The web product, Unboring by Reface, lists $90.99 and $119.99 a year.
Why is Reface rated 4.8 on iOS but 3.8 on Google Play?
We can only report the gap, not prove the cause. The iOS listing shows 4.8 from 496K ratings and Google Play shows 3.8 from 1.78M reviews. The most helpful Play reviews we saw all complain about charges larger than the advertised price.
How do I cancel Reface?
Cancel through the store that billed you. On iPhone go to Settings, your name, Subscriptions. On Android use Google Play, Payments and subscriptions. Deleting the app does not stop billing. Reface also publishes a web cancellation path under Profile, Settings, Support.
Is Reface safe for my face data?
It depends on your comfort level. The App Store privacy label, written by the developer, says purchases, user content, identifiers and usage data may be used to track you. The web tool states it does not collect or store uploaded photos. Read the live privacy notice before uploading your best selfies.
Does Reface add a watermark?
Reviewers on Product Hunt and a third-party test mention watermarks and paywalls on the free tier. The web plans advertise no watermarks and no ads on paid tiers. We did not export a free swap ourselves, so check the first export before sharing.
What is the best Reface alternative?
It depends on the job. For stylized portraits rather than video swaps, apps like Facetopia, Lensa or FaceApp fit better. For old photo restoration, Remini is the usual pick. For video and GIF templates specifically, Reface is still one of the most polished options.
